Monastery of Zvernec / Island of Zvernec

“The Monastery of Zvernec also known as the Monastery of St. Mary of Zvërnec is one of the most famous Byzantine monasteries in the Vlora region. Its construction is thought to have occurred between the 12th and 13th centuries and, thus, boasts an architecture that is typical of the Byzantine era. The monastery is an impressive object of significant cultural and religious value. It is located at Narta Island lagoon. The distance from the inhabited centers, the isolation and the protected place made this location suitable for setting up such an object.

Detained in separate monasteries there lived monks, people who fled everyday life and sought solitude for peace and tranquility. Their job was to pray to the master together and spend the rest of the time devoting you to crafts, writing books, or other human activities.

Visit to the Monastery of Zvernec and enjoy a hiking or cycling on the “ridge” of the hills behind the Monastery of Zvernec where you can see impressive views and capture amazing photos.  Don’t hesitate to “Kontakt us” for further informations about Guided Tours.
